Scars that Scar

After being wounded in the crossfire of a gang fight that took his brother's life, Elijah's mom moves them away from the rough South Side to a safer neighborhood across town. Despite the kindness of students at his new school, Elijah fears that his bullet scars will forever brand him as a thug from the wrong side of town, and decides that no one can ever know about his dark past. When a school play brings him and three other students together, friendships and a budding romance begin to form, and Elijah's secret becomes harder to hide. Together the four friends navigate the trials of adolescence and self-acceptance, learning that everyone has a story and that the futures we shape for ourselves can be anything we want them to be, no matter where we've been in the past.
