Even through a night scope, a very high tech and expensive night scope, the kind that turns even the darkest of nights into daylight; a person would have a hard time trying to see anything under these blind and near impossible conditions. There was no hint of a moon. The cloud cover was very heavy and the seas were very rough, and getting rougher. The waves were white capping and making the otherwise superb handling Scarab, very hard to manage. It was very dark. A perfect night for doing things that weren't to be discussed openly. A perfect night for doing things that certainly couldn't be discussed at the church social this coming Saturday night.
The clouds, even when they did get a break in, hung low and heavy over the water in a menacing example of the bully that they could be.
The boat gave out a throaty rumble from its exhaust. Only a hint that the powerful motor under the cowling was anything but stock. Truth be known, it was one of the fastest boats on the Gulf Coast, if not the fastest. Although it was not too loud as to draw undue attention, it was loud enough. With the engine as powerful as it was, it could never be quiet enough to make it sound like a regular run of the mill, cookie cutter boat motor, instead of the mammoth of horsepower that it was.
