The stealth invasion began in February of 2014. Russia deployed unmarked troops and military equipment into Ukraine, leading to the annexation of Crimea. In April, Vladimir Putin admitted to Russian activity in Crimea in an effort to create a Crimean referendum. As a result, the people of Ukraine suffered. Pro-Russian and anti-government groups took to the streets and the bloodshed began. Armed conflicts between the Ukrainian government and the separatists spread across the country.
