Preparing Educators to Communicate and Connect with Families and Communities (Hc)

Schmidt (literacy, Le Moyne College) and contributors of these seven essays believe that educators, communities and families must go beyond power struggles to focus on the needs of children for a broad range of educational experiences. They offer the results of their research on home-to-school communication, educating and training future teachers about engaging families, ways teachers can incorporate the cultural and social contributions of families into schools, ways to empower parents as part of the education team, and creating positive leadership in family engagement.
