For Rick Carter reality isn't what it used to be. Right when he thought it was safe to go to work it turns out that his life and all of reality is policed by a shadow organization of reality controlling miscreants. Could this be why life has always sucked? Or maybe it's because those same miscreants turn out to be long-lost friends from childhood who were whisked away in the secret hours of the night to fight an ongoing battle against the forces that threaten the destruction of everything he holds dear. It all revolves around a middle-aged cab driver in Tampa and a little old Chamorro man on Guam who runs the best barbecue joint in all of the realities: Pete's Barbecue.
