Pastoralists have robust knowledge on rangeland management. Despite this, pastoralists are perceived as villains by range ecologists. Their knowledge is ignored, regarded mythical, backward and irrational. Contrary to these viewpoints; studies show that pastoralists' approaches are adaptable. This book reveals herder knowledge of the Banyarwanda pastoralists of the Great Lakes region. They are found in Uganda, Rwanda, Democratic Republic of Congo, Burundi and Tanzania. The book can be used as a guide to any one teaching, training or has interest in demonstrating relevance of pastoralists' knowledge in rangeland management and understanding effect of stocking rate on herd mortality during drought. It is divided into sections. Section 1 introduces the reader to discourses on herder knowledge of rangeland management and Section 2 gives the reader a theoretical perspective focusing on related studies done else where, the consensus and contradictions observed. Section 3-6 focus on the methods and materials employed in the data collection, findings, discussions and conclusions.
