The major aim of this study was to determine the relation between emotional intelligence (EI) and the choice of reading strategies. Participants of this study were among intermediate and advanced EFL learners of Parax institute in Mashhad and M.A students of in TEFL in Sabzevar.A series of instruments were used including Michigan test of English Language Proficiency,Bar-On Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire and Strategy Inventory for Language Learning. Both structured reading strategy and emotional intelligence interviews were conducted to gain more insights on the learners' use of strategies, reading habits and their emotional capabilities. The results of Pearson Product-Moment Correlation showed that there were significant positive correlations between overall EI and the choice of metacognitive and affective strategies. On the contrary,no significant relationship was observed between EI and the choice of memory, cognitive, compensation and social strategies. There was also a positive significant correlation between EI and total number of strategies used by learners. The results of interview were also used to support and complement the results obtained through quantitative instruments.
