Millions of dollars have been spent by governments, corporations, and schools nationwide to develop appropriate materials to teach children about nutrition. However, by and large these programs teach nutrition from a traditional perspective of nutrients, digestion, counting calories, and learning about the food groups. These programs teach the chosen material well, but don't go far enough to create critical thinking skills in kids who need to learn more than what's being presented to truly be healthy. A curriculum for children is needed that teaches more peripheral aspects of nutrition that are often not covered by mainstream education. How food is produced greatly impacts its nutritional value. This project uses an information-based approach that provides the other side of the story that kids and their families are not learning from school health classes and public health resources.
