In four months of four summers, Dave and Sally Hall rode their bicycles across America from Seattle, Washington, to Bar Harbor, Maine. Their story offers a window into America from 1999 to 2003 as they experienced it on that journey. Pedaling through the mists of the Pacific Northwest, across snowy mountains, along great rivers, over golden plains, around Great Lakes, and through the remains of turbulent history to the rocky shores of Maine on the Atlantic, they were transformed by the beauty of America and the generosity of her people. In middle age, without reservations and carrying their own gear, they embraced adventure and, along the way, became healthy and strong.
