I have written my last poem at least several hundred times. This book contains a compilation of selections from that universe. Life shrinks for the octogenarian as memory is weakened. The immediacy and dailyness of life and the urgency of death have spilled over into this group of a few short poems. Few, because the denouement is in sight. Short, because one's attention span shortens with age. The most prolix writer becomes laconic after eighty. This time, the collection is, I suspect, accurately titled "Ninety-Two Last Poems". although the count is clearly incomplete and short of the round number. It contains screeds, laments and many love poems. And I love you, dear reader; I hope that shines through.
Lloyd Jacobs
graduated from Miami University of Ohio and from The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He practiced Surgery for many years, ultimately as Professor of Surgery at the University of Michigan. He was appointed President of The Medical College of Ohio in 2003 and became president of the combined institution when the Medical College of Ohio merged into The University of Toledo. He served in this role until 2015. He currently writes poetry daily and has established a modest publication record. Jacobs' poetry is almost invariably blank verse of a classical form. His subjects are the great concerns of human life: joy, love, old age and death.
