My War

The publication of this book marks 70 years since the end of World War Two. Mavis Foster was eleven at the time, having lived through it for the best part of her childhood. Now in her eighties, Mavis looks back and recalls the war through the eyes of a child whilst, at the same time, reflecting on it with the wisdom only old age can bring. Mavis' memoir reminds us that there is more to history than the official version of events. It is part of a growing number of individual histories which, together, tell us the story of the workaday people. Such histories, rich in unique details, might otherwise be lost if not for people such as Mavis writing them down. This will be an important and interesting work for generations to come.
