This book describes my on-again, off-again affair with a "studio scale" special effects filming model named the Millennium Falcon(R). When I first saw it on the big screen in 1977 in a new movie called "Star Wars"(R) I was completely captivated by it. Over the next 42 years I would draw it, draft it, build models of it and when possible purchase collectibles.
This is my story of discovery and my pursuit to have a perfect replica of this now iconic space ship of the future.
I include photos of a T-shirt that I had made over the holidays in 1977, with a bow view sketch of the Millennium Falcon(R) on the front and a stern view sketch on the back of the shirt.
I then present my process for drafting and producing, what might have been a bestselling old school "blue print" poster of the Falcon in 1983 (with an interesting back story) if I had only had the time and money to obtain licenses and then market it. Who knows my back story for this poster might have impacted the Star Wars(R) Universe...
I then have photos and descriptions of my efforts to make one accurate Falcon model by using two plastic model kits after I completed my "blue print" poster project in August of 1983.
I have comparison sketches and descriptions of my observations of the differences between the 5 foot studio scale (special effects model) made for the first movie and the second 32 inch studio scale model made for the second movie.
I also include scale dimensions for a full size Falcon based on measurements of a well-designed scale model using the current accepted length of the vehicle. I have gathered the "links" (URL) for all of the new websites about the Falcon. I include a brief tutorial (in the Appendix) on how to draw the Falcon in any "paint" program.
And of course I have included photos of my various Falcon models and remaining collectibles.
This book contains: 53 color plates, 17 color diagrams, 3 color comparison sketches, 1 color graph, 2 black and white plates and 2 tables. The Appendix also contains an additional 18 color plates, 2 black and white plates and 12 black and white drawings.
