Moonguyen: A Two-Way Tale of Adoption

Inspired by the real-life struggle of Curtis and Trang Webster to bond as father and daughter, "Moonguyen" tells the story of self-absorbed basketball coach Randy Hartman and his newly-adopted ten year-old Vietnamese daughter, Cam, as they collide over questions of culture, language and, ultimately, what it truly means to be "family." The voices of Randy and Cam alternate as each recalls the first several months of a very bumpy road to familial love. "Moonguyen" captures the frustrations, the humor and the drama of older-child adoption, with a heavy overlay of the unique challenges posed by international adoption. In a time when our cultural understanding of the family is evolving and expanding, "Moonguyen" presents a perspective on family which is entirely realistic but never cynical.
