Monte Hale started his movie career at Republic Pictures in April 1946 with "Home On theRange". PICTURE NEWS #8, adapted the film into comic form, but no other Hale stories were published until the popular Fawcett company began publishing MONTE HALE WESTERN with issue #29. It was the first Monte Hale comic, but Fawcett picked up the numbering sequence from the recently canceled MARY MARVEL Comics.The Fawcett issues had beautiful photo covers Initially. Carl Pfeufer, best known for his exciting work on Fawcett's TOM MIX, drew Monte's stories with an inking assist from John Jordan. JackBinder and Edmond Good also contributed artwork to the series. Leonard Frank did most of the artwork on the GABBY HAYES stories. The series lasted until issue #82. Charlton then published six issues, but they were reprints of the Fawcett issues.This book is available in both hardcover and trade paperback editions as well as in full color or black & white
