It is Fall 1941. On a freighter travelling from England, a newly hired chambermaid attends to her mistress as she travels to meet her fiance at his Irish father's vast banana plantation in Panama. Approaching a Panamanian port, the freighter explodes an sinks, separating the chambermaid from her mistress.
