One hundred and ten pounds on the top board is what makes this bookcase more than a bookcase. At that rating the top surface takes a television, a heavy lamp, a record player, or a stack of storage boxes, which turns a 39.4 in high unit into a media console with shelving underneath rather than a shelf you avoid putting weight on.Below, eight open compartments are divided into slots rated to 33 lb each and middle compartments rated to 55 lb. That distinction is useful, since the larger middle sections take vinyl, art books, or storage bins while the slots hold ordinary books upright without needing bookends. The unit measures 35.4 in wide by 11 in deep, a proportion that works under a window or against a half wall, and the height keeps it below eye level so the room stays open. Particleboard construction brings the assembled weight to 40.3 lb, which is substantial and is exactly why the top can be rated as highly as it is. Everything is open rather than behind doors, which suits books and record collections that are meant to be seen.
