A follow-up to and the second in the series, continues to follow the life and times of Marty Berg, a twentysomething military reservist looking for his purpose in the rapidly changing world of the early 1960s. Released by the army, Marty returns home on November 22, 1963, the day before President Kennedy is assassinated. Suddenly and without warning, he is thrust into a turbulent and fast-changing American society in which he no longer seems to fit, and he must discover his purpose without the structure of the military to guide and define him. Through a series of misadventures-and with a series of unique reservist friends who hinder him more than they help-he struggles to find his place and his purpose in life, in love, and especially in his own skin. Written in a lighthearted and conversational tone, is set in Brooklyn, New York, and is a study of the human condition that will appeal to anyone who has experienced life's ups and downs...and even its sideways.
