Marmion

When Sir Walter Scott had completed this poem of Marmion, in 1808, he foresaw that it would be a favorite with youth; and in the lines "To the Reader," at its conclusion, he specified the schoolboy in a passage which shows his warm feeling, and his appreciation of the schoolboy's natural heart. To read Marmion is indeed a light and pleasant task." Sir Walter Scott (1771-1832) was a Scottish writer and poet, a born storyteller and master of dialogue, one of the greatest historical novelists. Scott's historical romances enlarged the technical repertoire of prose fiction, raised its cultural status, and bound it to modern publishing industry. Scott's influence is seen among others in the works of James Fenimore Cooper, Alexandre Dumas, and Aleksandr Pushkin.
