Japanese writer-director Mari Okada's animated high fantasy film is a poignant exploration of the trials of motherhood. In a magical medieval world, a young girl from a tribe endowed with extreme longevity finds herself in enemy territory. She decides to raise an orphaned baby boy on her own, but her genetic inheritance (she no longer ages) creates unique challenges to their relationship over time.
