For well over a century Cornwall, in the far South West of the UK, has been recognised as a centre for visual art.'Magic and Modernism' describes the context in which this art appeared, and it throws light on the links between art, folklore and tourism, as well as the Celtic revival and the occult. It includes a consideration of writers as diverse as William Borlase, William Bottrell, D.H.
