'Lucia: The Girl who Danced in Shadows' is a novel based on historical fact. It is set in Northampton Asylum in England from 1951 to 1982 where Lucia Joyce (daughter of James Joyce) and Violet Gibson (the woman who shot Mussolini) spent the latter years of their lives. It is a story of an incredible love. It is a story of injustice. It is a story of the fine line between sanity and madness, but most of all, it is a story of the power of friendship and creativity, of the joy of music and dance and art, and of Lucia and Violet's plight, having relinquished their bodies to hold on to their souls.
