This book studies the negativity of the novel, understood as a certain combination of existential, linguistic, and reception-related forms of saying no. It develops this model on the basis of five historical paradigms, including the writings of A. Schopenhauer, G. Flaubert, S. Beckett, T. Bernhard and M. Houellebecq.
