Live for Life: The Journey

Julie, a young woman with a disquieting past in another country, is a teacher, devoted to the children she instructs, but in her life outside the schoolroom she is almost willfully unformed, passive, deliberately isolated from people and the pain they might bring. "My mystery is a simple one," she admits, "I don't know what being alive is." Into this empty life steps Victor, the intense young professor of philosophy whom Julie will love and who will guide her toward fulfillment of the "most urgent necessity"-becoming a human being. Such is her apprenticeship . . . to existence. Although attracted to her, he tells her that she is not yet ready for an authentic relationship because she has not learned how to live and assume responsibility for the creation of her own person. As their relationship develops Julie struggles to capture her feminine soul and overcome her indifference to life's pleasure and pain. After experiencing an epiphany, with guidance from her friend Sara, she learns to embrace life and come to terms with her past.
