Based on the novel by Laura Esquivel, Alfonso Arau's mystical fable stars Lumi Cavazos as Tita, a young turn-of-the-century Mexican woman who falls in love with Pedro Muzquiz (Mario Loenardi); not only does Tita's mother Elena (Regina Torne) not allow her daughter to marry, but she also offers Pedro the hand of oldest daughter Rosaura (Yareli Arizmendi). Pedro agrees to marry Rosaura, but only to stay close to Tita; she, on the other hand, channels all of her energies into her cooking, with surprising results.
