I do not consider this a book. I consider it a conversation, a conversation expressed between new friends over a cup of coffee. It is not written for money or notoriety. In this new life those are things that I do not long for anymore. I write this for all those who can understand the real meaning and the real feeling of such issues as serious addiction, depression, fear, anxiety and even near death experiences. Living them is one thing; confronting them is a whole different animal. You do not know me and most likely will never know me; as with many who have suffered, we prefer anonymity. I write for those whose eyes, after reading these pages, will find their hearts have also been touched-as they learn, through my story, that what they're going through and where they've been is not where they have to end up. These trials and tribulations were very difficult to bear, to say the least, so much so that those people who haven't experienced them first-hand would likely never understand how truly difficult they really are. I have always been taught that to really y and truly understand anything in life, you need to experience it firsthand, and I believe that is true with these. Understandably, those of us who have experienced these types of pain aren't rushing to be noticed. A person can "study" subjects in an attempt to better understand what the person is feeling, doing or saying. But it is my opinion that these states are far too complicated and interconnected for anyone, including the medical professionals, to completely comprehend. and that the medical field needs to understand this and make the necessary changes to better care for those in need. It is my simplest and sincerest hope that you gain peace, even one moment's peace, through any of the words here in this conversation. And to realize that you are not alone-there is help, and there is a force much stronger than ourselves waiting for you.
