On their third album, 2008's LIFERZ, Brooklyn's Blood on the Wall reaffirm their love of the beautifully caked-on noise spewed by bands such as Dinosaur Jr., Mudhoney, and Sonic Youth. However, Blood on the Wall's early-'90s revivalism doesn't overlook the key element of what made their musical forefathers so great: melody. Underneath the layers of sonic gunk are hooks both hummable ("The Ditch") and anthemic ("Go Go Go"). This sturdy and succinct album establishes Blood on the Wall as heirs to a lauded musical throne.
