Gennaro Cataldo, an Italian anarchist, has traveled incognito to Brussels from London and Paris where he plans to assassinate Leopold II, King of the Belgians. From a rooftop in downtown Brussels, Cataldo fires at King Leopold's carriage. Unable to determine whether his shots were true, Cataldo escapes to France and hides in Brittany where he belatedly learns he was unsuccessful. Seizing the moment a year later he vows to try again when Leopold, along with his 19-year old mistress, arrives in Dinard aboard his yacht to gamble at the famous casino. This time, after boarding his yacht and a killing spree in Saint-Malo across the bay, he flees to South America. With a cast of well-developed characters this is a rip-roaring ride.
