Leadership & Youth Building Peace: the United Nations and Nigeria's National Youth Service Corps in Perspective

Leadership remains the pivot for all matters of life. In the end, it comes down to "making the right things happen, in the right way, at the right time and for the right reasons" (Omaji 2017). When it comes to peace building - a task that must be done in the entire world, no factor surpasses leadership in this basic rendition. Intriguingly, the youth have emerged as the vectors of this type of leadership that can build peace everywhere. What role has the United Nations (UN) played in this? What lessons can we draw from Nigeria's National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Scheme in mobilising the elite youth group for peace building? What type of leaders do the youth need to become before they can build peace from wherever they are?
