Kids Taking Action: Reading Comprehension (Gr. 5-6)

Through a collection of short high-interest, nonfiction passages, students will learn how "everyday" young people like themselves are making efforts to create positive changes in the world Students will meet real kids who have identified concerns in their own lives or communities and taken steps to make improvements. Each unit features a young person making a difference in their community through positive activism. Every reading passage includes a variety of text features to help students gain a better understanding of the material. Also included are three pages of critical-thinking questions focusing on various reading skills, as well as a culminating activity that encourages students to make personal connections and share their own related experiences. Students are also invited to collaborate in their own communities to work for solutions to the problems they see in their world.
