Jerusalem and the Vatican Agreement The Catholic church has proposed that Jerusalem be made an International City under their jurisdiction. The Vatican proposed agreement would have the Vatican and the Pope take the over-sight of the Old City of Jerusalem and the temple mount. The government of Israel and the Palestinian Authority would not have the final authority on the city. It would be the Vatican that would solve the age old conflict. The Vatican proposal was acceptable to Peres, Arafat and the Pope.For centuries the Vatican has attempted to obtain control of Jerusalem, which started with the Crusades. Under the Vatican agreement the Israelis would give over control the Old City to the Vatican and was also going avoid future war. Israel was to share in the temple mount, and this caused great concern among the Palestinians. The Vatican must have Jerusalem and Mount Zion, before Christ returns to Zion, are they negate their claim to the “Vicar of Christ.”
