Jazz Piano Greats [Folkways]

This long out-of-print LP features a variety of different pianists with three selections by , two from and one apiece by (with an unidentified drummer), and ; all were recorded by in 1944. While those performances are fine, it is 's five numbers on the flip side (particularly a roaring "Fine & Dandy") that easily take solo honors. As usual the liner notes leave out most of the important information but the strong music on this 1974 collection outweighs the erratic packaging. ~ Scott Yanow
