Typically a woman and a man have a relationship, in this instance sexual. The sperm (estimated to be at 80 and 300 million competitors) that the man deposits in the woman's virgina start a journey toward the woman's womb in search of a fertile egg or eggs. If it pleases God to allow sperm to enter an egg or eggs they (eggs) are sealed off from any of the other competitors. Basically, creating the first single act of human selfishness.
