The frequency of incest and molestation is higher than what is often reported and is far too often swept under the rug. It remains a dirty secret that is locked behind closed doors.That is the story of many women and men from African American families (I'm sure other races experience the same thing too), whether molested by Dad, Mom, an uncle, brother, cousin or even an "aunt" most of the time our ordeals are treated as the "big pink elephant in the room"! Everyone sees it but no one wants to talk about it. Family embarrassment or threats, keeps you from ever telling anyone or turning the perpetrator in. it's almost like "if we don't talk about it, that means it never really happened."
