I'm No Chefette: I Am Chef Lexie in Bloomington, MN

A chef recounts her early culinary journey, questionable career choices, and complicated personal life. The culinary landscape looked different in 1999. In an industry that lacked diversity, Chef Lexie Logan was an anomaly: a Black woman pushing 40. At the turn of the 21st century, few African Americans were working in fine dining restaurants, let alone women who dared to step into an arrogant, fast-paced, and often brutal profession dominated by men who were not very welcoming and whose harsh words could easily break you. Lexie follows her passion to become a chef, from culinary school to cooking in various kitchens and participating in back-of-the-house antics. She could use a little more confidence while struggling to find her place in the culinary world. A food sojourn in Georgia leads her to a colorful new pair of friends, and to Taylor - a man she thought worthy of her love. Intolerance and racism soon rear their ugly head, as he is obligated to act on the terms of his family legacy and the Alabaster RockStars.
