Laura loves acting, but she is not looking forward to the school play, because she doesn’t expect her parents to be there. Laura’s parents have separated and she misses her father. When her mother invites a new friend, John, to dinner, Laura decides to do her best—in fact, to do her worst—to persuade the stranger not to stay.
