How (Not) to Be Single New York City from A Z in Bloomington, MN

Mira, a European woman in her 30s, ventures to the United States in search of a brighter future. While she successfully navigates the complexities of her new life and achieves her career aspirations, Mira encounters unanticipated problems in her romantic life overseas. Through 26 interconnected short stories inspired by real-life events, she describes obstacles and funny, oftentimes even bizarre moments on her journey to find love in New York City.
She is emotionally and socially intelligent, highly educated, and friendly, yet her many skills are not assisting her in establishing and developing meaningful relationships. Although she admits that her fickleness or an old wound might stand in the way of a stable romance, she also suggests that the reasons for her bad luck in love could simply be that she has never become accustomed to the American way of dating and that she keeps meeting men who are not the best match for her. They include a pothead with mood swings, a guy prone to the most notorious fashion crimes, an alcoholic, a drug dealer, a man who enjoys wearing sissy maid costumes on weekends, and a scientist who has battled cancer.
During her New York City dating journey, she learns that she is rarely single, even though she has not been in a dedicated relationship for a decade. As a New Yorker, she has constant non-committal relationships, goes on dates frequently, sometimes even twice a day, and enjoys a virtual romance with a funny California guy Alex (A). She finds comfort in Alex because both of them are very emotional and perceive love as the most important thing in life. However, due to their own problems – alcoholism in his and fickleness in her case, they struggle with commitment and decide to keep their friendship special by "staying single together."
