The history of Texas has been recorded in the blood of its martyrs.The Lexington of the American revolution had its counterpart in the Alamo; San Jacinto was the York-town of the Lone Star. Naturally, the greater American revolt was greater by virtue of the greatness of the interests involved; but the struggles, defeats and successes of the Texas wars for independence are thrilling in interest and equally as illustrative of the courage, fortitude and self-denial of the American pioneer as those which characterized the contest between the American colonies and England.
