The Story
Seventeen-year-old Tristan Collins' senior year is turned upside down when his little brother's leukemia returns from its remission. Armed with nothing more than a sketchbook and an overactive imagination, Tristan spends his nights at the ten-year-old's hospital bedside creating wild stories that keep his spirits high despite the grim circumstances.
Unfortunately, Tristan isn't completely immune to the bleak prognosis. With his new friends, Izzy
(a prolific soprano with an upcoming recital that could jumpstart her musical career) and Makiko
(a brilliant student still haunted by a family tragedy), the trio must grapple with young love, loss, grief, and acceptance as they work to finish their final year of high school.
About the Author
Luke Jackson received his BA in Music from Stony Brook University in 2019, and his Master's in Music Education from the University of Florida in 2024. He began his career in education after relocating to Florida during the COVID-19 pandemic, where he became a 6-12th grade choir director and opera singer. He happily resides in Orlando with his two cats, Lucy and Chelsea. He hopes his writing, teaching, and illustrations will inspire the next generation to use their God-given talents to bring light to the world.
