Dielectric materials are materials that can store electrostatic charge. They are important materials that are used in the production of capacitors as well as industrial coatings, the electrophorus and the Van de Graaff generator. The electronics industry has greatly benefitted from the manufacture of such materials. Most dielectric materials are solids such as porcelain, plastics and mica but they can also include gases such as dry air and distilled water.
