Grants: Corporate Grantmaking

California already has no ethnic majority, and by 2050, people of color will constitute half of the U.S. population. Corporate grant making to these diverse populations is vital, as well as good business sense. This volume, developed for fund-raisers by the National Committee for Responsive Philanthropy (NCRP), reports on the racial and ethnic grant making activities of leading companies. The committee chose 15 industries considered by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics to be among the most interactive with African American, Asian Pacific American, Hispanic, and Native American communities. The group used Fortune's 1995 Industry Leader list to identify the top 12 corporations in each of the 15 industries and asked them for data. Some 124 corporations provided a full list of grants; about 72,500 grants (awarded in 1995) were then reviewed and classified.
