Artists often find true inspiration in the threads that tie us all together. More often than not, one of the most prominent threads of humanity is the pain and suffering we all experience. Poetry is a beautiful outlet that Poet and critic Alexej Savreux's 2015 collection Graffiti on the Window [Illogical Conceits Publishing & Multimedia, 2015] aims to communicate the chaos of his youth as he struggled with schizophrenia through multiple poetic styles and aesthetics paired with references from different periods of human history. First published in 2015, then again in 2017, Savreux has resurrected Graffiti on the Window for a third time to provide a world plagued by the unknown a much-needed respite of hope. With two vastly different acts, Savreux seeks beauty in unlikely places, first through his voice as it was at the start of his journey through schizophrenia, and then through a calmer, though no less confusing, perspective as he learned more about his mental health. As a poet, Savreux was inspired to rerelease Graffiti on the Window in today's world to encourage readers to find beauty in things that are typically thought to be ugly. "It's an endless thing, my work. I hope people can find beauty in unlikely arenas," Savreux says. "I was motivated to rerelease it post-2020 to the literary establishment. I think an endless, hyper-literate, controlled chaotic poetical work searching for the true meaning of art and the human existence and finding beauty in the ugly is particularly apt during the current times that we find ourselves in." Engaging and versatile, Graffiti on the Window is a poetic journey into the unknown of the complex human psyche through a multitude of styles and eras of art.
