From the Land of the Kalevala

Mystical in voice and execution, the are a trio of musicians from Petrozavodsk, in the Republic of Karelia, Russia. Influenced by a melange of Finnish and Russian cultures, the initial impact of the sound has much in common with song and structures. Pleasant, unassuming, but terrificly endearing, the wonderful melody that introduces is a key example of the subtle charms the trio has to offer. Decoded in the liner notes, the material stems from protection spells against evil wizards, Finnish , and epic fables. A host of little-known instruments compose the sound (Birch bark flute, kantele, scythe, etc.), but the purity of the ensemble's work is refreshing in its unpretentiousness. ~ JoE Silva
