One of the most influential architects and designers of the 19th-century Gothic revival, Augustus Pugin (1812-1852) describes how the designs in this source book were inspired by Gothic ornament and the medieval artists' close adherence to natural forms. Published in 1849, the book contains an introduction by Pugin and 33 color plates, including two reproductions of his preliminary watercolours.
