Everything That Can Be Shaken

All it takes is one, bad lawyer. It started as a bold idea, an investment aimed at remaking the economic and educational reality of a poverty-stricken town in northern Honduras. But her legal counselor is not the godsend he first seemed. Suddenly, Carrie Jamieson, an artist and children's author, finds herself under investigation for fraud and money laundering, faced with the very real prospect of prison. Left without the help of her usual allies, failure seems certain unless a chance acquaintance can prove her innocence. Unaware of her mother's precarious situation, Carrie's daughter, Paloma, is haunted by three, young sisters who are tormented by their alcoholic father. Her desperation to save them takes her down a dangerous path, leading her back to the criminal connections she thought she had left behind and risking her engagement to an aspiring preacher. It's a summer of uncertainties made more difficult by the loss of dear friends, a showdown with an old nemesis, and the possible destruction of all their fondest dreams.
