Since the fall of the Soviet Union Russia has yet to implement an effective state ideology to endear the state to its people. Eurasianism could provide a possible solution for the state as a concept that places Russia in a unique place between Europe and Asia rather than a part of either Europe or Asia. This book analyzes the concept of Eurasianism, its origins, its most prolific modern proponent, and the potential for a state sponsored Eurasianist ideology. Eurasianism itself focuses on a unique role for Russia in the realm of international affairs. This concept, in turn, provides a form of Russian exceptionalism to its people. The Russian state can theoretically use such an ideology to provide a coherent argument against Westernization and liberal economic reforms in order to maintain control of the country. Furthermore, the concept of Eurasianism can also serve as a means to provide Russians with a sense of "Great Power" status in line with that of the former Soviet Union.
