When the body of the famous African-American lawyer Howard Elias is found, no detective wants to investigate. He specialized in cases involving police brutality and corruption, making everyone on the force a potential suspect. Harry Bosch is given the assignment. The murder happened right before a major trial involving his client Michael Harris, alleging policy brutality. After Rodney King, the riots of 1992, and the OJ Simpson trial, Los Angeles is on edge. Harry knows he is stepping into a minefield that could blow up in his face.
