Desirable Encounters

Joanne exhaled deeply, the relief she felt washing over her akin to a warm shower, the message both sweet and to the point. The time she spent with Andre was always cherished and she had always hoped something more would come out of their friendship, their souls connected in more ways than they had ever imagined they would. When she first met him through a friend many years ago, she was instantly drawn to him; his charismatic charm and smile enough to make her blush like she was a giggly teenager again. The way his blue eyes twinkled as he spoke, his face ruggedly handsome and boyish but with an air of knowing that surrounded him. She held the phone close to her chest as she stared out in front of her; watching the patients and nurses walk by her in a flash of coloured clothing. She focused on a female in a dirty hospital gown, her hands intertwined with a man who was leaning in closer to her, patting her hair and telling her that it was all right and that he would always be beside her.A part of Joanne was envious; the love for her husband had faded many moons ago - their personality's crashing as they grew older, the spark they once shared diminishing like a candle in the wind. They had once been what everyone perceived to be the perfect couple - doing everything together as they tried their hardest to make a family until the news of their infertility slapped them hard in the face. Joanne couldn't help but wonder if that was the reason her husband grew cold, his attitude towards her growing distant with each passing year they stayed together, the idea of having children becoming nothing but a shared hope that they knew was no longer possible.
