Deng Xiaoping Shakes the World: An Eyewitness Account of China's Party Work Conference and Third Plenum

Physicist Yu joined the Chinese Communist Party just before the Japanese invasion. By the middle 1970s, he held a number of high posts in the government, and worked with Deng before and during his periods of ascendancy. He was a regular participant in the Conference, and a staff member at the Plenum, when radical reforms were introduced. He recounted his behind-the-scenes experience 20 years later, at age 83, in (The 41 days that changed the fate of China), published by the Central Compilation and Translation Publishing House in 1998, and here translated by Fang Yinong.
