Dear Kate, Love, Henry is the prequel to Behind These Eyes Such Sweet Madness Lies (My Life On and Off the Stage) Dear Kate, Love, Henry, (A Love Story for the Ages) concerns a promise made by two young lovers. They vow to marry and to be together throughout eternity. During a time of extended separation, personal letters were written but not sent. Why? A later meeting comes as an aging actor nears his final days on a Broadway stage. The story begins with Henry long before he meets and falls in love with his beloved, Kate. On his determined journey, he discovers some of the various "wonders of the world" as they unfold before him: music, dance, languages, humor, the written and the spoken word, singing, the use of the legitimate stage, burlesque, painting, and the unique feeling and expression of love in the telling of stories. Paramount in these world's great wonders is his first and forever love, Kate. Along with those wonders, there is the fortuitous development and use of what some might call, mystical enhancements. I admit that this writer would find it to be near impossible not to love this fascinating and spirited young, Kate. Her inner beauty, her occasional displays of tasteful lewdness, her zest for life, the constant challenge to predict what she might do in any given situation, and her inclination to laugh at the world around her, are about all a man would need. Maybe. Question: How long can romantic love endure the stresses and strains of time and proximity? I wonder. It all depends on the many vagaries of life, I guess. A first love is unique in that it can happen only once as akin to a spectacular shooting star, spanning the night sky with a brilliant glow for a brief moment in time.
