The author narrates from time to time, and you have the feeling you are reading the memoir of a good friend, then you read the poem and you remember this is a book of poetry and you are delighted with his fine craftsmanship. He uses many poetic forms, and he tells many stories, reveals numerous feelings, expresses insights you will treasure. A copy of "On Being Eighty" belongs in my wallet. You won't be surprised when music works its way into these poems; you may be surprised at the humor. It is delicious. And you are treated to a thorough exercise in the Fibonacci sequence.
